Mr. Mirsad Ćeman, President of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ms. Erda Začiragić, Head of the Office of the President, participated in the VI Congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), which was held in Madrid (the Kingdom of Spain) from 28 to 31 October 2025.
Since its establishment in 2009, the WCCJ has provided a unique platform for judicial dialogue encouraging exchange of legal views and experiences of constitutional judges from around the world. This “mutual enrichment” promotes a thorough reflection on constitutional principles and strengthens the fundamental values guaranteed by State constitutions.
The VI Congress of the WCCJ focused on The Human Rights of Future Generations. The Congress had four sessions entitled respectively: The preservation of Natural Resources and the Environment, Preservation of Humankind’s Cultural Heritage, Access to Scientific Knowledge and New Technologies, and Independence of Constitutional Courts.
The IV General Assembly of the WCCJ was held within the framework of the Congress. At the Assembly, amendments to the WCCJ Statute were adopted, as was report on the activities of the WCCJ Bureau in the previous period, new members of the Bureau were elected and one Constitutional Court was admitted as full member of the WCCJ.
After a constructive discussion the General Assembly adopted a special Communique in which it expressed its evaluations, views and recommendations for the operation of the Constitutional Courts within the Conference and, according to their jurisdictions, in the countries they come from.
A meeting of the Conference of the European Constitutional Courts (CECC) was held during the Congress, as part of preparations for the IV General Assembly of the WCCJ. Representing the Constitutional Court of BiH, President Ćeman took active part in the WCCJ General Assembly and the CECC.
During the Congress, President Ćeman met with a number of presidents and judges of the constitutional and other highest courts in the world who participated in this event, with whom he exchanged opinions about the topics of the Congress, as well as about other current constitutional law issues.
