The Constitutional Court of BiH presented its annual work results and the new publication "Annual Report"

On 15 May 2026, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina held a press conference and presented its relevant statistics, the key results of the work of the Constitutional Court in 2025, as well as the challenges that the Constitutional Court has been facing in the most recent years, especially due to incomplete Court composition.

President of the Constitutional Court, Mirsad Ćeman, opened the conference with an opening address. Vice-Presidents Valerija Galić and Angelika Nussberger and Judge Larisa Velić also addressed the media.

The judges particularly addressed the issue and cause of the increase in the number of backlog cases, the failure to enforce decisions of the Constitutional Court, statistical data on cases against Bosnia and Herzegovina before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the results of applications by citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina before that court. They also addressed the participation, role and contribution of the international judges to the work of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This conference is an expression of the commitment and continuous efforts of the Constitutional Court to reinforce transparency, openness to the public and providing timely information to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all interested parties on issues within its jurisdiction.

The conference presented the new publication of the Constitutional Court, the "Annual Report", which, inter alia, provides an overview of the most significant activities, key decisions and operational indicators of the work of the Constitutional Court in 2025. The plan is to publish the "Annual Report" regularly.

The competent authorities, i.e. the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska and the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, were once again urged to fulfill their constitutional obligation and immediately elect the new judges to ensure the proper function of the Grand Chamber and the Chamber. The efficiency of the work of the Constitutional Court most directly depends on this proper functioning, and in particular the exercise of the right to a fair trial, especially to a trial within a reasonable time, of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. from both Entities and the Brčko District.
