On 10 March 2026, students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Mostar, accompanied by Prof. Cvija Jurković and Assistant Professor Ivan Tomić, visited the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) as part of an organised study visit.
During the visit, the students were informed about the constitutional status and jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court of BiH, its position with regard to the ordinary courts, as well as the application of the European Convention on Human Rights in the Court’s case-law. The proceedings before the Court, current case-law and the most important challenges with which the Court is faced in its work, were given special consideration.
The students had an opportunity to hear more about the relationship between the national case-law and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the impact of judgments of that court on decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the development of constitutional standards in the country.
The purpose of this visit was to allow the students to be directly informed about the work of the Constitutional Court and to correlate the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies to the specific case-law. At the same time, this kind of visit encourages students to take a critical view of the role of constitutional judiciary in the protection of constitutionality, rule of law and human rights in BiH.
Mr. Franjo Dragičević, Head of the Review of Constitutionality Section, discussed relevant issues in the field of constitutional law with the students, thereby allowing the students to have direct insight into the practical aspects of work of this institution.
