As part of her visits to the relevant bodies and institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms. Mary Lawlor, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, and her associates visited the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina today.
Ms. Lawlor was welcomed by Mr. Mirsad Ćeman, President of the Constitutional Court, and Ms. Valerija Galić, Vice-President of the Constitutional Court, and their assistants.
President Ćeman and Vice-President Galić presented facts about the constitutional position, responsibilities, organisation and operation of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The participants commented on the current challenges faced by the Constitutional Court with a special reference to the relevant case law of the Constitutional Court concerning the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms and, within that scope, protection and position of human rights defenders in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as application of relevant international instruments in that segment.
The Special Rapporteur expressed her gratitude for the reception, exchange of opinions and information that she received from President Ćeman and Vice-President Galić, and offered her best wishes for a successful work of the Constitutional Court in the future.
