Appointment of a New International Judge

Judge of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Constance Grewe, has reached 70 years of age and in accordance with Article VI(1)(c) of the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the yesterday’s date, her term of office of the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has expired.

Prof. Constance Grewe held the office of the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina as of 2004. She held the office of the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of BiH from 2009 to 2012.

Accordingly, the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mr. Guido Raimondi, in accordance with his authorities and under the terms of Article VI(1)(a) of the Constitution of BiH has appointed Prof Giovani Grasso from the Republic of Italy as the Judge of Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Prof. Giovanni Grasso was born in Catania (Italy) on 25 April 1950.

Current Position:

·         Since 1 November 1986, a full professor of Criminal Law and of European Criminal Law at the Law Faculty, Catania University (1987), in which he also holds the course of European criminal law;

·         Member of the Catania Bar since 4 December 1986; since 23 November 1990, enrolled in

the special register of licensed defence barristers for the Superior Courts;

·         President of the Centro di diritto pénale europeo (Centre for European criminal law),

            Catania;

·         Director of the Specialization School for Legal Professions A. Galati, Catania University;

·         Member and contact point for Italy of the European Criminal Law Network (ECLAN),

instituted by the Institut d'études européennes, Bruxelles;

·         Member of the Scientific Council of the ISCSC (Institute Supérieur de Sciences

criminelles), Siracusa;

·         Member of the Board of Trustees (Comitato dei Garanti) for the liquidation of the

Association La Margherita - Giustizia è Libertà, Roma;

·         Since April 2014, Member of the Defence Counsel of the Municipality of Catania.

Prof Giovanni Grasso was a member of the Human Rights Chamber for Bosnia and Herzegovina as from March 1996 to December 2003. From December 1998 to December 2002, he was a Vice-President of the Human Rights Chamber and the President of the II Panel.
